At Nithsdale Wanderers Youth Football Club, we are committed to creating a safe,
supportive, and enjoyable environment for all children and young people involved in our activities.


5. Safe Recruitment and Training
• All staff, coaches, and volunteers must undergo background checks (e.g., SYFA PVG,
DBS).
• Safeguarding training is mandatory and refreshed regularly.
• All volunteers, be it coaches or helpers need to register a profile with the SYFA Comet.
6. Code of Conduct
The club enforces strict codes of conduct for:
• Coaches and Volunteers – Maintain professionalism, prioritize child safety, and create a
supportive environment.
• Parents and Guardians – Encourage fair play, avoid aggressive behavior, and support
children positively.
• Players – Show respect, play fairly, and follow club rules.

7. Responding to Concerns
• Any concerns about a child’s welfare should be reported to the CPWO immediately.
• Confidentiality will be maintained, but child safety is the priority.
• If a child is in immediate danger, emergency services will be contacted.

8. Reporting and Review
• The strategy is reviewed annually or as needed.
• Feedback from parents, players, and coaches is encouraged to improve policies.
• Reports on safeguarding issues will be handled with confidentiality and care.

4. Roles and Responsibilities
Club Child Protection & Welfare Officer (CPWO)
• Acts as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns.
• Ensures all safeguarding policies are implemented and reviewed annually.
• Works with external safeguarding bodies when necessary.
Coaches and Volunteers
• Complete safeguarding training as required by the FA or governing body.
• Follow club policies on child protection and wellbeing.
• Report any concerns regarding a child’s welfare to the CWO.
Parents and Guardians
• Support the club’s safeguarding policies.
• Report any concerns to the CPWO or appropriate personnel.
• Encourage positive behavior in young players.
Players
• Respect coaches, teammates, and opponents.
• Report any concerns to a trusted adult or club representative.
• Follow the club’s code of conduct.
